This mandate is carried out with the support and expertise of departments specializing in GIS and remote sensing, water resources, land resources, and information management, aiming to benefit end-users.

Our Departments

GIS & Remote Sensing

Possesses the capability to integrate Remote Sensing (RS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) tools, along with conducting field surveys, to gather and analyze data on land resources. These tools generate comprehensive maps with legends delineating various features. Both satellite imagery and aerial photography are employed to evaluate and oversee water, land resources, and infrastructures. IMC merges Remote Sensing technology with traditional field data collection, enhancing the accuracy and depth of analysis and information provided.

Land Resources

Focused on assessing the characteristics of the land, the activities carried out on it and the subsequent effects of these activities. Topics covered include land forms, land cover, land use, soil characteristics, land suitability and land degradation, among others.

Water Resources

Our areas of focus in water include:

  • 1. Providing water information that benefits government and non-governmental agencies and Somaliland citizens
  • 2. Performing water resources research
  • 3. Setting up systems to monitor water resources and climate
  • 4. Providing early warning on natural hazards such as floods and drought
