The Somaliland Information Management Center (IMC), in collaboration with partners, has released the Probabilistic Rainfall and Temperature Forecast for May 2026. The outlook indicates a high likelihood (up to 80%) of above-normal rainfall across most parts of Somaliland, with additional areas experiencing moderate probabilities of above-normal conditions. At the same time, above-normal temperatures are expected across large parts of the country, particularly in eastern and central regions. These conditions present both opportunities and risks. Increased rainfall is expected to support crop production, pasture regeneration, and water resource recharge, while also raising concerns around flooding, waterlogging, and livestock disease outbreaks. The forecast highlights the importance of early planning, climate-informed decision-making, and strengthened preparedness measures across agriculture, water management, and humanitarian sectors.
